Adrienne Scott, your handwriting coach, is a registered and licensed Occupational Therapist who specializes in pediatric therapy. Her desire to start Write Track! Handwriting Camps was birthed out of the numerous referrals she receives from concerned teachers and parents of children with handwriting problems. She recognized and heard how teachers seem to be at a loss in how to approach handwriting instruction in their classes and how they feel ill-equipped in aiding their struggling students. She heard from parents who don’t know what to do to help their children and rely on professionals to intervene, and she realizes that many teachers and occupational therapists lack proper training in how to approach handwriting instruction in a systematic way.
After Coach Scott began researching evidence based practices to help herself address this growing area of need for children to improve their handwriting, she was introduced to and began using the Handwriting Without Tears program and saw drastic improvements in many of her students’ handwriting. She was also able to make practical recommendations to assist those students who struggled with handwriting, yet lacked other deficits and therefore didn’t qualify to receive occupational therapy services. Coach Scott began training other occupational therapists in the use of this multisensory approach combined with other effective methods to help their students. She then later began training teachers, speech therapists, counselors, parents and administrators. These professionals were captivated with her style and knowledge base, and begged for more training.
After continuing her training of others, she became a Certified Handwriting Specialist through the popular Handwriting Without Tears Program in order to be recognized as one who is knowledgeable in assessing, correcting, and designing programs for handwriting difficulties and who is effective in training others. Coach Scott’s background as a school based occupational therapist enables her to provide a well rounded training program that understands anatomy, developmental stages and underlying deficits that have an overall affect on handwriting, as well as activity analysis that enables her to implement fun and creative ways to address those underlying problems. Her professional experience also gives her a keen eye to recognize immediate deficit areas while at the same time, provide corrective actions that can have an immediate positive effect on handwriting.
Coach Scott is a former NCAA basketball player who has a passion for helping and coaching others. She also has a loving and supportive family that you may see at any number of her camps. She is married to her wonderful husband of 17 years and together, they have two school age children who of course, love handwriting!
